At 72, and enjoying his retirement, Gordon’s time as a volunteer has touched many people at Roxburghe House.

Gordon's journey began after a distinguished career spanning over 40 years in oil and gas safety management, preceded by seven years with the Grampian Fire Service.

Seeking to remain active in his retirement, he found his calling at Roxburghe House.

Initially volunteering in the day unit, Gordon quickly became a valued member of the team, chatting with patients and getting to know the staff.

When the pandemic hit, he rolled up his sleeves and joined the gardening crew, even taking on the role of coordinator.

“It’s a really special place,” said Gordon, talking about the warm atmosphere and the close bonds between volunteers and staff. He even mentions getting a “huge hug” from the senior nurse, showing just how friendly everyone is.
