Sharon keeps fundraising in the family at Dundee Kiltwalk

Sharon Barron is keeping the fundraising in the family by completing the Dundee Kiltwalk earlier this month.

Her 20 mile Mighty Stride took her from St Andrews to Slessor Gardens in Dundee and raised a mighty £323 for Friends of Roxburghe House Grampian.

Sharon’s mother Marjory was a patient in Roxburghe House and this amazing effort follows her two brothers’ cycling challenge, also in memory of their mum. Neil and Andy Clarke completed the Etape Loch Ness, a 66-mile (106km) route around the loch starting and finishing in the Highland capital of Inverness, all to raise funds for Friends.

Sharon said: “I wanted to do something for Roxburghe House because they were outstanding with their care, attention and support to my mum and us as a family last year. Raising money was important so that Roxburghe House can continue to support and care for other loved ones.

“The walk was a challenge at times but it was ultimately a rewarding experience being part of such a big event and knowing it was all in a good cause.”

In total, four individuals took part in the Dundee Kiltwalk for Friends of Roxburghe House Grampian. Sharon even managed to spot and speak to one of her fellow Friends fundraisers, which is remarkable among the other 4,000 participants.

From 8.30am on the Sunday Morning, 2,800 “mighty striders” set off from St Andrews West Sands, near the first tee at the Old Course before heading 20 miles up the coast and over the Tay Bridge to Slessor Gardens in the heart of Dundee.

The Dundee event follows the Aberdeen Kiltwalk, which took place earlier in the year in June, when more than 60 brave souls took on the Mighty Stride for Friends between Aberdeen and Banchory and four the Wee Wander from Crathes to Banchory.
