Record-breaking turnout for Friends at Aberdeen Kiltwalk 2026

A sea of tartan took over the North-east yesterday (Sunday) as thousands of walkers stepped out for the Aberdeen Kiltwalk, including a record-breaking group of fundraisers supporting Friends of Roxburghe House Grampian.

More than 90 walkers laced up their boots to tramp through the day for Friends, surpassing last year’s record turnout of 70 participants.

While the final fundraising total is still being calculated, the incredible efforts of our walkers will provide vital funding to support patients and families at Roxburghe House.

Treading the miles from Banchory and Cults

The event offered participants two challenges, both finishing at Duthie Park in Aberdeen. The 18-mile Mighty Stride kicked off from Bellfield Park in Banchory, while the family-friendly four-mile Wee Wander allowed walkers of all ages to join the fun from Cults Academy.

Among those tackling the long-distance route was Friends board trustee Ryan Fox, who successfully completed the Mighty Stride.

Corporate partners also turned out in force. A huge well done goes to the team from Boskalis, one of our key partners this year. The company has already been incredibly supportive, also helping out at His Majesty's Theatre during the Lyric Society production of “We Will Rock You”, and they continued their brilliant efforts yesterday by taking on the Kiltwalk challenge for Friends and SensationALL.

Inspirational team efforts

Before the event, we shared the stories of some truly inspirational individuals who were fundraising for the cause.

“Mighty Mo” was honoured by a dedicated group of walkers whose online fundraising total has already reached an amazing £1,430.

We also cheered on “Team Ann”, walking in honour of Ann Gallon. Though Ann was unfortunately unable to take part on the day due to being in hospital, her team did her proud by completing the Wee Wander. They were even joined by their wee dog, who completed the walk wearing a Friends T-shirt. The team’s online fundraising has reached a phenomenal £3,470.

A warm welcome at Duthie Park

A dedicated group of Friends trustees was waiting at the Duthie Park finish line to greet the weary walkers with smiles and congratulations.

Trustees Anne Brown, Marjory Grant (pictured above) and Sam Harris were all on hand to celebrate with the walkers. Sam was also there to welcome his mum Jane Harris who successfully completed the Wee Wander with granddaughter, Ada.

Anne praised the incredible spirit of everyone who took part: “It was a fine day with no rain, and it was wonderful to see so many people coming together in their best tartan.

“We want to say a massive thank you to every single one of our 90-plus fundraisers. Your incredible energy and support make such a difference, and we are so grateful for your efforts.”

The Kiltwalk is Scotland's largest mass participation walking event, and thanks to the Kiltwalk fundraising model, every single penny raised by our walkers goes directly to Friends, plus all eligible Gift Aid.
