The event – part of the UK’s biggest walking fundraising event - is fast approaching, with a total of 5,000 North-east walkers expected to set out on 1 June this year.

And five of those walkers who will be doing it for Friends are students at the International School of Aberdeen.

Gaianeh Kasparian, Sophia Swarbrick, Toby Macalpine, Nicholas Davies and Amir Dadashov are undertaking the 18-mile “Mighty Stride” walking from Banchory to Aberdeen.

“We chose Friends of Roxburghe House since we admire what the charity does a lot, and we also have a close personal connection to it,” said Gaianeh.

“Roxburghe House took amazing care of someone who was close to us. We are very grateful for this so we wanted to give back to the charity as much as we possibly can.”

The International School is based in Cults and hosts almost 500 students representing approximately 45 nationalities, across six continents, including 200 local students.

Aged between 3 to 18, the largest nationalities are Scottish and the rest of the UK, North American, Canadian, French, Italian, Norwegian, Angolan and Nigerian.

The team chose to fundraise money as part of a school project, called the CAS programme, which focuses on creativity, activity and service (CAS). Through a variety of activities and projects, the programme enables students to develop their passions, skills and interests outside the classroom.
