Board changes marked at AGM

The Friends of Roxburghe House Grampian held its 44th AGM (annual general meeting) on 22 March at Rubislaw Church Centre.

There were 22 members there to hear about changes to the board.

Chairman Barbara Manson paid tribute to the two board members standing down. Claire Maitland retired after 12 years on the board, and Peter Clark has stepped down as Treasurer and will step down as a trustee in a few months once the financial handover is complete.

Claire had brought her extensive knowledge of NHS Grampian and charity work in the medical sector and she was a strong advocate for the team at Roxburghe House.

Peter had spent 11 years as treasurer, and was always diligent in his preparation of accounts for board meetings and AGMs. Barbara said he was approachable and always on hand to sort out anything financial and all of the Friends owe him a huge thanks for all his hard work.

Both members have received a small token of thanks in recognition of their hard work.

Stepping onto the board are new members Ryan Fox and Ian Mackie.

Ryan is a partner with Aberdein Considine solicitors who works in Stonehaven and has close ties to the city and shire.

He said: “I hope that my contribution in the role would enable the board of trustees to reach decisions that make the best possible use of funds generously donated to them towards achieving the charity's goals.”

Ian became interested in Friends through the recent cuddle bed fundraising initiative.

He is a chartered accountant with extensive financial and general management experience, much of it gained in the oil and gas industry. At present, he is working for a chartered accountancy firm in Aberdeen and says he is keen to give back.

Also discussed at the meeting was the Friends’ brand new brand.

Members were delighted with the flower featuring in the logo as everyone is so fond of the garden at Roxburghe House. There were two pop-up banners there to show off the new look as well as a branded tablecloth display.

Barbara Manson thanked Stuart Cheyne from 06 Media, Joanna Fraser from Hoolet and board member Billy Gordon for all their hard work to get the logo, website and Facebook page all pulled together and looking so good.

“We hope that Friends shall seem relevant to the times we find ourselves in and we shall be able to connect with many supporters online and through social media,” she said.

There was also the opportunity for a cup of coffee and some delicious home baking to let everyone catch up with other Friends members in an informal setting after the meeting.

The 2023 Christmas cards were on display for people to look at and vote on their favourites, as well as a small amount of merchandise with the new Friends logo.
